What does the future look like and what developments can/must be expected? What new opportunities and challenges have to be met by independent cinema? And to survive and enjoy a successful future, how does the independent film industry need to improve its ways of doing business and to lobby its requests on a political level? The first think tank searched for answers to these fundamental questions.

The digital roll-out has started and will change the face of global film and cinema whether we want it to or not. There is no room for celluloid nostalgia. Already almost standard, from pre- to post-production, digital cinema will soon be the norm for distribution as well.   In the near future, film will be made and shown digitally. What does the digital future look like? What technological changes are taking place? What effect are they having on our business model and the economics of the industry? Has the digital future already started? And what does digitalisation mean for independent cinema? At Schloss Ziethen we looked at marketing films in the digital future. We discussed new markets, new distribution models and the marketing of specialised audiovisual product under these new circumstances.
